Friends

So I can't not write a quick post about our Elko friends. This week has been a lot of fun but it is bitter sweet. Jake and I have been very fortunate to make some wonderful friends since we moved here almost 2 years ago (Can you believe it has been almost 2 years??). Almost instantly we became friends with a couple who lived in our apartment complex that we started out in. As the months have past we have met others and as of right now we have a really fun group of people that we love to get together with. We all have young kids and we are all enjoy getting together.

There isn't a week that goes by that we aren't hanging out with someone. The wives are especially lucky because this past year we have done story time, mommy school and park picnics pretty much every week. Sometimes I get to see my friends and hang out and talk almost every day. I love it and the kids love it. Sadly every so often someone ends up leaving and it is a pretty big bummer.

This week our very first Elko friends are leaving us. It sucks. Lynsie is going to think I am such a dork for even posting this but I have to. They have been so good and they really are the couple that has glued a lot of us together. We ended up having a non-goodbye, goodbye party this past weekend and it was so fun. Joey, Lynsie, and Frank we will miss you. You might have visitors very soon though :)

My big little guy

I have been a slacker about blogging lately. Sorry. I also must apologize for the lack of a Disney post. I didn't take my nice camera ( I will never forgive myself for that) so I used my old point and shoot. I then realized that I don't have a card reader that works with that so... No post. Sometime though.

This past few weeks have been pretty bumpy for our little family. No sooner did we get home from Disney than the boys finally came down with that nasty flu that Jake and I had during the trip. Nathan was the last to start with the symptoms but he got it the worst. I thank heaven that he didn't get sick while we were gone. We ended up in the ER with him in the middle of the night because he couldn't breath. He had the croup and it hit him pretty hard. Jake had to work the next morning so I took both boy's without him at 12:30 to the hospital and we were there until about 3:00. We got home and in bed just in time for Jake to wake up for work. It wasn't fun going without him but he wouldn't have gotten any sleep that night. We ended up spending a week at home with very little leaving. I don't think Nathan even stepped outside for 4 straight days.

The Croup passed and Nathan recovered just in time to have his very first surgery. This past year Nathan has had 8 ear infections and he has also been snoring and having disturbed sleep. In the past I worked in a Pediatric Pulmonologist/ Sleep Disorder Clinic and I knew we were headed for some fun. After visiting with and ENT he recommended he get tubes and have his adenoids removed. I always knew we would end up having to do things like this with our kids but I have to say it was still really hard for me. I was so worried and I felt so bad.

The poor kid was scared that morning. I had tried to talk with him in the days before and just let him know that we were going to the doctor and they were going to fix his ears. I told him were were going to have him wear some special jammies and that the doctor and some other people would look in his ears. I also let him know that after we would stay home for a day or two and watch movies and eat ice cream. That didn't seem to prepare him. As soon as they asked him to change he flipped. It took both Jake and I reasoning with him and trying to keep him calm. When they finally took him away he just started to scream. Jake and I pretty much felt like dirtbags. When he came back in he was groggy for a pretty long time. When we finally got home he just crashed and slept until 2:30 in the afternoon. (This made for an interesting night since we only woke him up at 7 that morning and he was out of surgery by 8:30)

As of today he is doing really well. He is still having a hard time at night. I think his nose is still slightly swollen so he mouth breaths. That leads to a sore throat and he will wake up a couple of times at night very uncomfortable. Hopefully we will see the good of all of this in the weeks to come with better sleep and no ear infections.
